SL Studio Live Series Mixing Consoles

The S/L Studio/Live Series is one of the biggest upgrades in the 2001 catalog. It moves Carvin from compact live mixers and Concert Series boards into full 8-bus console territory. The line includes the S/L24, S/L40, and S/L56, each designed for live sound and recording use. The catalog emphasizes inline recording capability, 8 aux sends per channel, meter bridge visibility, rugged all-steel construction, and a dedicated rackmount SLP5600 power supply. This is a major difference from the 1999 catalog, where the Concert Series mixers were strong live boards but did not yet represent this full-scale 8-bus console format.

  • 24-, 40-, and 56-channel frames
  • Studio/live 8-bus console format
  • Full meter bridge
  • Inline recording design
  • 8 aux sends per channel

PA Series Powered Mixers

The PA Series mixers are a major 2001 refresh of Carvin’s portable sound system category. Compared with the 1999 CX420, CX630, CX872, and CX1272 mixers, the 2001 PA Series uses new naming and broader system tiers. The line starts with the compact PA410 and PA620, then expands to the high-powered PA800 and PA1200 1000-watt three-amp mixers, plus the PA1200R non-powered rack version. These mixers anchor many of the packaged systems with 805, 822, 832, 1584, and 1562 loudspeakers.

  • Replaces earlier CX portable system emphasis

Featured models: PA410 PA620 PA800 PA1200 PA1200R

S400 Stagemate Battery Powered PA System

The StageMate is one of the most distinctive additions in the 2001 catalog because it gives Carvin a battery-powered portable sound system. The S400 is a 4-channel, 100-watt system with an internal speaker, and the S400D adds built-in digital effects. It can run from its internal 12V sealed battery, 120V AC, or external 12V DC power, making it useful for acoustic performers, vocalists, sporting events, weddings, churches, company functions, outdoor announcements, and small gatherings.

  • New battery-powered portable sound system

Featured models: SRS6.5 SRS6.5-2

FH1801 Folded Horn Subwoofer

The FH1801 adds a folded-horn subwoofer design to the 2001 catalog’s subwoofer lineup. Unlike the SW1801 front-loaded subwoofer and SW1802 dual-18 cabinet, the FH1801 uses a folded horn enclosure to amplify longer bass waves and reduce unwanted mids and highs. It is aimed at DJs, bands, and installations that need strong physical low-end impact from a single 18-inch cabinet.

  • New folded-horn 18-inch subwoofer
  • 800 watts continuous power handling

Featured models: FH1801

SX Series Solid State Guitar Amplifiers

The SX Series remains Carvin’s solid-state guitar amplifier offering in the 2001 catalog, sitting beside the Legacy tube amp and MTS tube line. The SX models provide practical, high-feature guitar amplification with effects, channel switching, and solid-state reliability. In the 2001 context, the SX Series helps round out the amplifier section by giving players a more affordable and flexible alternative to the all-tube Legacy and MTS models.

  • Part of the broader 2001 guitar amplifier section with Legacy, MTS, and acoustic amps
Featured models: SX100 SX200 SX300H SX200E
Catalog Story

Inside the Carvin Catalog

The 2001 catalog continues the broad system-building direction of the 2000 catalog but gives the line a much larger professional reinforcement profile. The 2000 catalog centered heavily on DCM amplifiers, TR/SW loudspeakers, CX and Concert mixers, the PM5, and the Steve Vai Legacy launch. The 2001 book keeps the Legacy, DCM, Pro Series loudspeakers, Redline bass amplification, and packaged PA approach, but the new emphasis is clearly on larger, more complete live sound systems.

The most important additions are the S/L Studio/Live 8-bus consoles, the TCS Touring Concert Systems, and the DCM4000A. These move the catalog beyond portable PA and club systems into large-format concert and installation territory. The S/L consoles add 24-, 40-, and 56-channel frames with meter bridges, 8-bus routing, 8 aux sends, inline recording capability, and an external rackmount power supply. The TCS line introduces flyable Baltic Birch touring cabinets, Quick-Link array hardware, high-power 4-inch voice-coil drivers, and dedicated full-range, monitor, and subwoofer models. The DCM4000A supports that same expansion with four channels and 4000 watts RMS in a 3-space amplifier.

The smaller system side is also refreshed. The PA Series mixers replace the older CX-style portable mixer focus with PA410, PA620, PA800, PA1200, and PA1200R systems. The StageMate adds a battery-powered 100-watt portable sound system. The SRS6.5 Studio Reference Monitor adds a near-field studio monitor category. The FH1801 folded-horn subwoofer expands the subwoofer line beyond SW1801 and SW1802. The SX Series guitar amps continue Carvin’s solid-state guitar combo/head offerings alongside the Legacy and MTS/Vintage tube amplifiers.

Compared with 2000, 2001 is a major expansion year. The product line is still familiar in many areas, but the new console, touring speaker, PA mixer, subwoofer, and monitor products give this catalog a stronger large-system identity than the prior edition.
