RL6815 Cyclops

The RL6815 Cyclops is one of the strongest bass amplification statements in the 1997 catalog. Carvin describes it as a bi-amped monster built around the R600 Redline bass head, a heavy-duty 15-inch woofer, two 8-inch midrange drivers, and the RedEye compression horn driver in a custom-tuned bi-amped enclosure. The result is a self-contained professional bass combo that preserves the Redline system idea but compresses it into a transportable cabinet. The catalog specifically ties Bunny Brunel to the RL6815 Cyclops, noting that his acoustic upright bass through the Cyclops produced a rich acoustic tone at the 1997 Grammy Awards telecast.

  • Bi-amped bass combo

RL410T RedEye

The RL410T RedEye is the high-output top cabinet at the center of Carvin’s Redline bass systems. It is presented as the cabinet that supplies the articulation, snap, and upper-register clarity for bi-amped R600 rigs, especially when paired with an RL115 or RL118 low-frequency cabinet. The catalog’s system packages show the RL410T in the RL615 and RL618 bi-amped bass systems, where it works above the low cabinet while the R600 handles crossover and power distribution. The RL410T is also referenced in the PB100-10 copy because that compact combo uses the same heavy-duty PS10 10-inch woofer family featured in the RedEye cabinet.

  • Artist use: Dave Roe uses R600 into RL410T and RL115; Ed Friedland is tied to R600 with RL410T / RL210T in the prior-year Redline rollout
Featured models: RL410T

RL118 Red Line Subwoofer

The RL118 is the larger low-frequency partner in the Redline cabinet family. In 1997 it appears as the low cabinet in the RL618 bi-amped bass system, paired with the RL410T and powered by the R600 head. Its role is deep, extended bass support beneath the upper RedEye cabinet, giving the Redline system a larger low-end platform than the RL115 pairing. The catalog positions the RL118 for players who need greater bottom-end reach while keeping the modular Redline architecture: R600 head, top cabinet, low cabinet, and cabling

Catalog Story

Inside the Carvin Catalog

The 1997 catalog carries forward much of the 1996 structure, but its opening pages make the changes clear. Where 1996 introduced the F-Series power amps, Redline bass line, MTS3200 Master Tube Series, SM162 Studio Mate, and the 1584 / 1588 loudspeakers, the 1997 catalog refines that platform and updates the larger system architecture. The biggest visible shift is the new HT and DCM power amp family, led by the DCM1500 and DCM2000, replacing the 1996 F-Series emphasis with a more tour-oriented power section built around higher output, Speakon connections, modular construction, heavy-duty steel chassis, toroid transformers, opto limiters, and expanded cooling.

The front half of the catalog stays centered on complete working systems: HT/DCM power amps, SM162, CX powered mixers, DX consoles, 1584 / 1588 cabinets, TR1503 / TR1801 trapezoid systems, and the new SW1802 dual 18-inch subwoofer. Compared with 1996, 1997 feels less like a launch year and more like a system-building year. The same CX1252, DX1642, DX2442, 1584, 1588, TR1503, and Redline bass products continue, but they are now tied to newer high-power amplification and Speakon-based packages.

In guitars and basses, the big visual change is the arrival of The Bolt, Carvin’s renewed bolt-on guitar platform, alongside the continued Holdsworth, AE185, AC175, AC275, DC, TL, SC, LB, BB, and acoustic bass lines. On the amp side, the Vintage Tube, MTS3200, Valve Master, and Redline sections remain important, with artist content reinforcing real stage use: Steve Vai with MTS3200 and F-Series power amps, Charlie Crowe with MTS3200 / AC175 / DC135 / TL60, Bunny Brunel with the RL6815 Cyclops, and Dave Roe and Mario Rodriguez with R600-driven Redline rigs.
