RX Mixers

The RX Series remains Carvin's high-powered rackmount mixer solution in 2007. Rather than separating mixer, power amplifiers, effects and monitor processing into several rack components, the RX800 and RX1200 combine these functions in a five-space Road Warrior chassis. Each incorporates four 300-watt power amplifiers for a total of 1200 watts, allowing the system to operate stereo mains plus two separately powered monitor mixes. Four graphic EQ sections and two digital effects processors make the design especially useful as a compact live-sound control center. The RX platform is largely carried over from 2006, but the complete-system configurations are updated around the new LM and LS loudspeakers.

C44 / CONCERT 44 SERIES MIXERS

The Concert 44 Series continues as Carvin's principal conventional live-sound console family in 2007. The platform combines a true four-subgroup architecture with six auxiliary buses — four dedicated monitor sends and two effects sends — giving the consoles substantially more routing capability than a simple stereo board. Two onboard 24-bit effects engines supply reverb, chorus, flange and delay-type processing, while dual nine-band graphic EQs allow output shaping. The C1644P adds four internal 300-watt amplifiers and a Road Warrior enclosure, turning the 16-channel console into a 1200-watt powered mixer. The fundamental C44 design carries forward from 2006; the key 2007 change is its integration with the new LM and LS loudspeaker systems.

LM Series Lightweight Loudspeakers

The LM Series is one of the principal new products of the 2007 catalog and is important enough to appear on the front cover. Carvin designed LM as a lightweight portable loudspeaker family for mobile DJs, club musicians, working sound companies and installations. Both the 12-inch and 15-inch models use high-efficiency neodymium components in rugged polypropylene molded cabinets. Their asymmetrical horn coverage, dual-angle cabinet design and pole/suspension mounting allow the same cabinet to function as a main loudspeaker or monitor. LS Series Loudspeakers

The LS Live Sound Series is the other major new loudspeaker development in the 2007 catalog. Where LM emphasizes molded lightweight portability, LS uses multi-layer cross-grain Baltic birch enclosures and traditional touring hardware. The family spans compact 10- and 12-inch two-way boxes, 15-inch two-way models, several three-way systems and single- and dual-18-inch subwoofers. Powered APS versions provide factory-matched bi- or tri-amplification. This change makes LS a direct successor to much of the Club/APS role in the 2006 catalog while establishing a newly named Live Sound family.

VINTAGE16

The Vintage16 remains the smallest member of Carvin's Vintage Series tube guitar amplifier line. Rather than being a new 2007 model, it carries forward the low-powered all-tube concept seen in the previous catalog and provides a compact counterpart to the 50-watt Nomad and Bel Air. Its selectable pentode/triode operation allows the amplifier to move between approximately 16 watts and 5 watts, making it especially useful where full tube saturation is wanted without the output level of Carvin's larger stage amplifiers. The circuit uses 12AX7 preamp tubes, EL84 power tubes, spring reverb and the Vintage Series SOAK control. The catalog pairs the amplifier with a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker.

  • Compact Vintage Series all-tube combo
  • Pentode/Triode operation
  • Approximately 16-watt / 5-watt selectable output
  • 12AX7 preamp tubes
  • EL84 output tubes

  • Smallest amplifier in the 2007 Vintage Series hierarchy
Featured models: Vintage16

BR Bass Combos

The BR Bass Combo Series marks a clear change from the Red Line/PB organization of earlier Carvin catalogs. Four models address two very different levels of use. The BR12 and BR15 are compact 120-watt combos using the BX120 preamp/amplifier concept, while the BR610 and BR615 are substantially more powerful systems based around the BX600 amplifier. The larger combos place the controls and XLR direct output on the front panel for easier stage use and incorporate extensive graphic and parametric equalization, compression and high-frequency level control

  • New BR naming replaces much of the older PB/Red Line combo emphasis
  • BR12 and BR15 are compact 120-watt combos

BX1200 Bass Head

The BX1200 is Carvin's high-output dual-monoblock bass head for the 2007 lineup. Its discrete Class A preamp feeds extensive tone shaping consisting of a contour circuit, a five-control tone section with three sweepable midrange bands and a footswitchable nine-band graphic EQ. An optical compressor controls peaks, while the internal crossover permits bi-amplified bass systems. The two amplifier channels can run independently or bridge for as much as 1200 watts into 4 ohms, giving the BX1200 enough flexibility to drive the BR systems shown elsewhere in the catalog.

Catalog Story

Inside the Carvin Catalog

The 2007 Carvin catalog retains much of the broad product structure established in 2006, but the pro sound section undergoes a substantial loudspeaker update. The familiar RX powered rack mixers and Concert 44 consoles continue to anchor complete live-sound systems, while the DCM and HD amplifier ranges remain available for systems requiring separate amplification. The largest change is the arrival of two new loudspeaker families: the lightweight LM Series and the more traditional Baltic-birch LS Series. Together they replace much of the role occupied by the Club and APS loudspeakers in the 2006 catalog and give Carvin two distinctly different approaches to portable sound reinforcement.

The LM12, LM15, LM12A and LM15A introduce lightweight polypropylene cabinets with neodymium drivers, asymmetrical high-frequency coverage and both main-speaker and floor-monitor capability. The powered A-models add 350-watt bi-amplification, time alignment and a three-channel input section, allowing an LM cabinet to operate either from a mixer or as a small self-contained PA. The cover itself promotes these new LM loudspeakers, making them one of the catalog's primary 2007 introductions.

The new LS Live Sound Series represents the heavier-duty wooden-cabinet side of the line. Eight principal loudspeaker configurations cover compact two-way mains and monitors, larger three-way systems and single- and dual-18-inch subwoofers. Baltic birch construction, steel grilles, high-order crossovers, Neutrik connections and powered APS variants give the LS family a broad range extending from compact club systems through considerably larger live-sound applications. Models such as the LS1503, LS1523 and LS1802 substantially reorganize Carvin's mainstream professional loudspeaker offering from the 2006 Club/APS lineup.

The mixer range is more evolutionary. RX800 and RX1200 continue as four-amplifier rackmount mixers, while the C844, C1644, C2444, C3244 and powered C1644P maintain the Concert 44 platform. Their continued presence is important because the new LM and LS loudspeakers are immediately incorporated into complete RX and C44 sound-system packages. Thus the new speaker families are not isolated products; they become part of Carvin's complete mixer-amplifier-loudspeaker system strategy.

Power amplification remains centered on the broad DCM Series, ranging from compact amplifiers through the DCM4000, with HD900 and HD1800 continuing as lower-cost alternatives. The TRx line also remains the higher-output concert-oriented loudspeaker family, including TRx122 and TRx152 monitor/mains, TRx153 three-way medium-throw cabinets and TRx118b/TRx218b subwoofers.

The guitar amplifier section is more familiar from 2006. The three-channel V3, Steve Vai Legacy, Vintage Series, SX Series, AG100D, MTS and Frank Gambale Tone Navigator remain central. The Vintage16 is therefore not a wholly new 2007 amplifier, but it remains significant as Carvin's compact low-powered all-tube Vintage Series model, complementing the larger Nomad and Bel Air.

The bass amplification section changes more visibly. Instead of the older Red Line/PB emphasis, the 2007 catalog presents the BR bass combos, BRX Neo combos, BX600/BX1200 heads, B800/B1500 heads and BR/BRX cabinets and systems. BR12 and BR15 handle compact 120-watt combo duties, while BR610 and BR615 combine the BX600 amplifier platform with higher-output cabinets. BRX112 and BRX212 Neo combos pair the B800 amplifier with lightweight neodymium speakers. The BX1200 becomes the principal 1200-watt dual-monoblock bass head; importantly, the catalog does not identify a model called BR1200.

Instrument development continues as well. The Icon bass family appears prominently, while Carvin calls out new 2007 18-volt active/passive bass electronics, stacked bass/treble controls, sweepable midrange and new SP-Series soapbar pickups. Black Stone Cherry is featured as a new Carvin artist addition, with Chris Robertson using an SC90, Ben Wells a CT6M and Jon Lawhon rotating between the IC4 Icon bass and BB70.

Overall, 2007 is closely related to the 2006 catalog in mixers, amplifiers and many instrument families, but it is clearly distinguished by the introduction of the LM and LS professional loudspeakers, the reworked bass amplification lineup, the Icon bass emphasis, new bass electronics and the expanded UX1000 wireless system.
