Hollywood Store location
The Hollywood store callout reinforces that Carvin was no longer operating only as a factory-direct mail-order business with a single Escondido presence. In the 1991 catalog, Carvin explicitly invites Los Angeles-area customers to visit the Hollywood store at 5900 Santa Monica Blvd., notes that it carries a full inventory of Carvin merchandise, and gives dedicated store hours and an availability phone number. This matters in the 1991 context because it supports the catalog’s larger message about direct contact with the manufacturer while also giving Carvin a visible retail-style showroom presence in a major music market.
FET1000 Power Amplifier
The FET1000 is one of the clearest upgrades called out in the 1991 book. Carson Kiesel singles it out in the president’s letter, and the product section presents it as the upper-tier MOSFET power amp in the line, capable of 1000 watts bridged at 8 ohms or 500/500 watts at 4 ohms. Carvin positions it as both powerful and reliable, stressing SpeakerGuard protection, MOSFET transparency, modular construction, and stable operation under sustained pro-audio use. In the 1991 catalog it functions as the high-power backbone for larger loudspeaker and tri-amped systems.
FET401 Monitor Amplifier with EQ
The FET401 is a purpose-built monitor amplifier rather than a generic repurposed power amp. Carvin presents it as a 400 watt rackmount monitor amp with an onboard 9-band graphic EQ, which makes it especially useful in live stage-monitor applications where control, feedback management, and accurate translation are critical. It stands out in the 1991 catalog because it addresses a specific reinforcement need with its own identity rather than simply borrowing from the main FET amplifier line.
3018 Tri-Amp Loudspeaker System
The 3018 system is Carvin’s largest modular concert-format sound package in the 1991 catalog. It combines the 3018 folded-horn woofer section, the 1210 horn-loaded midrange, and the 560 radial horn into a tri-amped system controlled by the XC1000 crossover and powered by dual FET1000 amplifiers. This is the catalog’s most explicit “wall of sound” system, intended for large auditoriums and outdoor use, and it illustrates Carvin’s strongest system-integration thinking in 1991.
X50B Tube Amplifier
The X50B gives Carvin a more compact tube-head option in the X-Amp line while retaining the same overall philosophy that made the X100B popular with touring and session players. In the 1991 catalog it is grouped with the X100B and stack systems, and Carvin presents both heads as delivering the classic tube sound with channel switching, active EQ control, and a strong lead voice. The X50B’s importance in 1991 is that it broadens the line for players who want the X-series tone and feature set in a lower-powered
PB518 Bass Full Stack
The PB518 stack is one of the most powerful bass-rig entries in the 1991 catalog because it pairs the PB500 head with the PB518 enclosure built around the 18-inch PS18C woofer. Carvin’s bass section emphasizes this line as part of its modern Pro Bass approach: MOSFET power, built-in processing, bi-amp capability, and cabinets that can move serious low end without losing control. The PB518 stack is the larger, deeper-voiced option for players who need maximum low-frequency authority.
PB300C Bass Combo Amp
The PB300C combo gives Carvin a more self-contained Pro Bass option in a catalog otherwise rich in modular rack and head/cabinet systems. It packages Carvin’s bass amplification and speaker design into a portable combo format suited to players who want Pro Bass functionality without building a full separate stack. In the 1991 lineup it helps bridge the gap between smaller club practicality and the more advanced bi-amp head systems above it.
PB15 Bass Preamp
The PB15 is one of the key rack-oriented bass products in the 1991 catalog. Carson Kiesel specifically mentions the Pro Bass 15 as part of the popular rack setup alongside the SX-15 and FET amps, and this positions the PB15 as the front-end control center for a more professional modular bass rig. It reflects Carvin’s ongoing move away from simple bass heads alone and toward preamp/power-amp systems with more signal control and rack integration.
