Amplification and electronics receive major space in the 1961 catalog. The 12-C continues as the compact pro combo, while the 28-212-B, 15-8-A, and 8-12-A expand Carvin’s higher-powered amp lineup with Jensen speaker systems, variable tremolo, and stronger output stages. The pickup, wiring, and parts pages deepen Carvin’s identity as an electronics-focused manufacturer, not just a guitar builder.
Steel Guitars
The steel guitar section remains the spine of the 1961 catalog. Carvin opens with six- and eight-string single-neck steels, then develops the line into tone-changer instruments and console double- and triple-neck models. The company stresses eastern rock maple bodies, Alnico pickups, molded hardware, chrome leg systems, and strong tuning flexibility. This section shows Carvin still treating steel guitar as its core identity, even while the rest of the catalog broadens around it.
Guitars, Bass, and Specialty Instruments
The 1961 issue shows Carvin pushing further into electric fretted instruments. Electric basses, double-neck crossover instruments, solid-body guitars, electric mandolins, a left-handed Spanish guitar, and an electric violin all appear as distinct catalog features.
